You can also call the WMU English Department at

On a distant campus not too far away, young writers will mix
up, twist up, and tangle up familiar fairy tale favorites with their
own fresh ideas. Writers will learn to conjure up the perfect
mix of distant lands, cunning characters, frightful villains, and
outrageous obstacles, that may or may not lead to a happily
ever after. Their imaginations will take you on journeys to
magical lands of once upon a time in the camp anthology they
will create.
Ages 11-14: Writer’s Toolbox
We recommend this camp for young authors entering 6th-9th grades.
Writers are skilled in the craft of writing. And all great writers
have a toolbox of tools they use to create their writing. In this
camp, while we write stories and narratives, we will also help
each writer create his or her own ‘toolbox’ of writing
techniques that can be used in all sorts of writing, both fiction
and non-fiction.
Who will be there?
You’ll meet lots of other motivated, high-spirited young writers like yourself -- people who love to write. And some great
teachers, too, including:
Emily Ziegler, our camp director, is a Literacy Coach at Washington Writers’ Academy.
Hanna Cronen, teaches at Washington Writers’ Academy returning for her fourth year with CYW.
Dionna Roberts teaches at Northeastern Elementary School.
Our Program Staff, a group of WMU students who are excited to work with young writers.
When, Where, What
The camps meet daily on campus at Western Michigan University (Monday-Friday) in Brown Hall for two weeks from
9:00 AM-12:00 PM. Due to the writing process of anthology production, campers need to attend both weeks.
Tuition for the camp is $130. The fee includes computer fees, T-shirt, and all writing supplies. From previous “young writers” . . .
“Coolest camp ever!”
“I love writing even more now.”
“The teachers are super!”
“I met lots of great other kids!”
“I learned a lot about my own style.”
And Parents . . .
