University lecturer in the Communication Disorders (CDIS) Program of the College
of Health and Human Services. Presently teach three undergraduate didactic courses: Language Development: Early Stages, Sociolinguistics, and Introduction to
Communication Disorders. Developed syllabus and overall course structure for
Foundations of Clinical Practice, a graduate pre-practicum course. University
practicum supervisor for graduate students enrolled in external clinical practica.
Advisor to graduate students in CDIS program. Coordinate and supervise graduate
student prevention service-learning activities within the community.
Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist , Northwest Indiana and Illinois
Consult with teachers, administrators, student services personnel, and other education professionals in various school districts throughout Northwest Indiana and
Illinois regarding the Latino student body. Topics addressed include language acquisition of bilingual (Spanish/English) students, cultural-linguistic differences of
Latino students in an academic setting, instructional modifications that may be
considered when teaching this population in the school setting, and linguistic behaviors that may warrant further bilingual assessment. Evaluate bilingual student’s
speech and language skills to determine if student presents with a speech and/or
language disorder or if cultural-linguistic characteristics evident in the academic
setting are dialectal differences.

Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist
As a member of the Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Department, administered
evaluations and provided therapeutic services to children with communication disorders and their families on an outpatient basis. Multiple diagnostic instruments
and therapy strategies were utilized for children presenting with diverse medical
histories and etiologies for communication disorders. Children served included
those with a diagnosis of Autism, Cerebral Palsy, augmentative communication
needs, Apraxia, Down Syndrome, developmental delays, and Specific Language Impairment.

Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist – Early Intervention
Assessed and treated simultaneous or sequential bilingual (Spanish/English), and
Spanish-only speaking children between the ages of birth to 3 years of age with
communication disorders. Consulted and worked very closely with parents or primary caregivers on developing strategies to stimulate language skills in children.
Collaborated with other clinical practitioners (OT, SP, Nurse, Neurologist, Psychologist, Pediatrician, Social Work) servicing children with multiple disabilities and assisted with transition into schools.

School-Based Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist
Provided assessment and therapeutic services to bilingual (Spanish/English) students enrolled in School District 130’s Early Childhood and Preschool Programs as
well as students in elementary grades (first through fifth grade). Students presented with varied diagnoses where speech language delays were either the primary or
secondary diagnosis. Therapy services were provided in the therapy office (one on
one, small group) and classroom setting (class size ranged from 10-30).
