Faith Promise
During the month of February we will be focusing on
Faith Promise. Faith Promise is an exci ng way to support redemp ve Chris an outreach beyond the walls of
Cross Point. The term Faith Promise is derived from our
willingness to step out in faith and believe that God will
provide the resources to us, above and beyond our commi ed giving. As God provides those resources, we
promise to be faithful to give to our mission efforts. You
see, it is money we don’t know God is blessing us with
un l it happens.
Cross Point uses Faith Promise to support missions
work in our community, na on, and around the
world.
This year’s theme is Circle Makers. The scripture we
will be focusing on is Joshua 6:16 – “The seventh me
around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast,
Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the Lord
has given you the city!”
Faith Promise links your “promise” to give with your
“faith” to believe that God will provide. The Faith Promise Plan, based on the teaching of Paul in 2 Corinthians 89, is summed up in the apostle’s
tes mony concerning the Chrisans at Macedonia: “For I tes fy
that they gave as much as they
were able, and even beyond their
ability.” 2 Cor. 8:3 NIV
This exercise of faith is a spiritual
act through which you receive
God’s special enabling. As you
prac ce it, you experience and
added spiritual dimension. You
walk with God and give only as
God gives to you.

Pastor’s Pen
Hi! 2015 is well underway and I am so thankful for the way
God is working at Cross Point. February is traditionally the
month of Love. And as we are sharing on Sunday mornings
about being Circle Makers, know that circles are made and
maintained by a simple word: LOVE. Love is not always
hearing what we want. Love is not always doing what we
want. Love in its truest form is always centered on God and
comes from God. Because our God is Love (1 John 4:8).
"Oh, Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess -- the white
horse from my collection. The one with the pink tail. Remember,
Daddy? The one you gave me. She’s my favorite."
"That’s okay, Honey. Daddy loves you. Good night." And he
brushed her cheek with a kiss. About a week later, after the story
time, Jenny’s daddy asked again, "Do you love me?"
"Daddy, you know I love you." "Then give me your pearls."
The cheerful girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five.
With her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them: a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box. "Oh please,
Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please!"
Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and
then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little
girl’s upturned face. "A dollar ninety-five. That’s almost
$2.00 If you really want them, I’ll think of some extra chores
for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy
them for yourself. Your birthday’s only a week away and you
might get another crisp dollar bill from Grandma."
As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and
counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her
share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked Mrs.
McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten cents. On her
birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and
at last she had enough money to buy the necklace.
Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and
grown up. She wore them everywhere -- Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she took them off was
when she went swimming or had a bubble bath. Mother said
if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.
"Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my baby doll. The
brand new one I got for my birthday. She is so beautiful and you
can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper."
"That’s okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves
you." And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss. A
few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her
bed with her legs crossed Indian-style. As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent tear rolled down her
cheek. "What is it, Jenny? What’s the matter?" Jenny didn’t say
anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And when she
opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver,
she finally said, "Here, Daddy. It’s for you."
With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny’s kind daddy reached
out with one hand to take the dime-store necklace, and with the
other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet
case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny. He
had had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give up
the dime-store stuff so he could give her genuine treasure.
This is so like our Heavenly Father. What are you hanging on to?
Love,
Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was
ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and
come upstairs to read her a story. One night when he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?"
"Oh yes, Daddy. You know that I love you." "Then give me
your pearls."

Peanut Butter Egg Making Begins
The peanut butter egg making factory is now in full
swing! Dedicated volunteers began making eggs on
January 26. This is one of the largest and most successful fundraisers at Cross Point. Our goal is to make
20,000 eggs again this year. In order to accomplish
this, it will take many hens and a few roosters. Egg
Central will operate on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
each week until our goal has been reached. If you can
help from 9 AM to 2 PM, YOU are needed. What
you gain from this event is great fellowship, a lot of
fun, fantastic lunches, and $10,000 from the proceeds
goes directly to Generations Building Fund. Hope to
see YOU at Egg Central.
Women’s Ministry
Gee, we cancelled our January meeting because of the
‘flu bug’---sad face! So many ladies of Cross Point
were sick and we decided it would be best to wait until
February to continue. So, Lord willing, continue we
shall!
Our February meeting is scheduled for Sunday, the 8th
at 5:00 pm in the lobby at Cross Point. Excitement is
in the air as we look forward to a new year and new
beginnings. Our prayer is that our attendance will increase as we learn and share God’s Word with each
other. So, make Cross Point’s Women’s Ministry
meeting a priority…put the date on your calendar now
and you won’t forget.
Since February is the month of ‘love’ let’s be reminded
how important it is to share God’s Love in whatever
way we can to those who are in need. After all, God
shares His love in the form of His Son, Jesus, with all
who will receive Him. So, let’s be loving and be lovable following our example, Jesus Christ.

Generations Capital Campaign 2015
The Generations Capital Campaign 2015 kicked off in January. You were
challenged to help make a difference for all of the generations that are represented at Cross Point and those yet to come by joining your church family in supporting the building fund.
Supporting the building fund allows us to pay the mortgage on the church
facility and grounds. Our facility is an amazing tool God has given us to
use to reach out to our community, reach the lost, and train and disciple
believers. We must work together as a church family to take care of this
valuable resource God has given us.

Cross Point Baptizes Five in January
Cross Point experienced its third baptism service in just seven weeks in January. Upon accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their
life, five individuals followed in the Lord’s
footsteps in baptism on January 25, 2015. Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward change.
It is a public profession where a person says to
the world they are now a follower of Jesus
Christ and their old, former self is no more because of the change that has occurred in their
life.

On Saturday March 28, Dr. Stan Toler will be sharing
at Cross Point. The theme this year is “The Power of
One.” As Christ followers, we have a great work to do
in what may be a very limited time frame. Jesus not
only gave his followers a job to do, he gave them a divine resource with which to do it – the power of his Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).
This one day seminar will inspire and EQUIP you to
use a proven method for expanding God’s kingdom.
We want as many people as possible to take advantage
of this event. If you are in a leadership capacity
(ministry leader, Elder, Sunday School teacher, etc.)
you are asked to be in attendance and to bring your
team that assists you in ministry to this amazing day.
One thing is for certain, YOU will NOT be disappointed.
The day will begin with registration at 8 AM and
Stan will start teaching at 9. A light continental
breakfast will be available during the registration
time. In addition, lunch will be provided. All of this
is free to Cross Point staff, leaders, and ministry volunteers. For others, we are asking them to pay a
modest $25/person. If you know of other congregations in our area that could benefit from a day like
this, please contact Justin Davis, who has all the information you can pass along, at (304) 252-6684

Inclement Weather Policy
As we enter the winter months, it is important to remind everyone of the inclement weather policy. Below are the particulars of the policy. We hope this will
help you to know what to do when the weather is bad.
Wednesday Evening :
If there is no school in Raleigh County or if school is dismissed early on a
Wednesday due to bad weather, we will not have church service that evening.
Sunday Services:
The Elder Board will make the decision whether or not to have church when the
weather is bad.

The church will utilize the church notification system, web
site, and media outlets to inform members if church is cancelled on Sunday. Be sure to visit the church web site to find
out if church has been cancelled: www.beckleycrosspoint.org.
We hope this will help you know about our church services in
the event of bad weather. We understand that church attendance is important, but we also do not want to risk the lives of
our brothers and sisters when the weather is threatening.
Adventure Alley Kids Service Project
Adventure Alley Kids will be preparing and
sending care packages to our college students to
remind them that their church family loves
them, is thinking of them, and is praying for
their success! We would like to send a variety
of gift cards and are asking for your help with
this. Would you be willing to donate a small
value gift card to help us with this project? Below are some suggestions but feel free to include other cards you think might be useful.
Please bring your donation to the church by

Center. Thanks so much for your help!!
$5.00 McDonalds gift cards, $10.00 Subway
gifts cards, $10.00 Kroger gifts cards, gift
cards for gasoline, Amazon gift cards, WalMart gift cards, etc.
Please read the “Sticky Faith” article on page

be praying for and can help through this service project.
Bleachers Receive Makeover
Thanks to the hard work of some of the guys at
Cross Point the bleachers in the gym have a new
look. All of the boards were disassembled from
the bleachers, sanded down, refinished, painted,
and reassembled. Damaged boards were also replaced. The guys also completed a number of
other projects in the gym, including installing
trim boards around the base of the walls. Cross
Point Church would like to thank Vondie Cook,
Sr., U.J. Toler, Jim Kirk, Jason Bess, Max
Cochran, and Larry Cook for all of their hard
work.

Sticky Faith
In their book Sticky Faith, Dr Kara Powell & Dr
Chap Clark share their findings and discoveries
from several research projects to help determine
what helps students have sticky faith-faith that
sticks through college into adulthood!
Contact from Adults in the Church Makes a difference to College Freshmen!
Contrary to popular opinion, it’s not “out of
sight, out of mind” for high school graduates.
Contact from at least one adult from the congregation outside of the youth ministry during the
first semester of college is linked with Sticky
Faith. Hearing from an adult from their home
church—whether via text, email, phone, or
something you’ve perhaps heard of called the US
postal service—seems to help students take their
faith to college with them. In fact, that ongoing
contact still makes a difference three years later.

Breakthrough—Gathering for Students in Grades 4 through 8
On January 4th, the first Sunday of 2015 there were 33
students in attendance for Breakthrough with several
new faces. Breakthrough is a time for 4th – 8th graders
to gather for fellowship, bible lessons, competitions,

Youth Creation Museum Trip
Our goal for the student ministry at Cross Point is to raise up a new genera on of Christcentered leaders. With that in mind, we are planning a trip to the Crea on Museum. This trip
can help bring awareness of how to defend one’s faith against the many theories and ideas
that are being pushed upon our students. The Crea on Museum is located just outside of
Cincinna , Ohio. The trip will be February 6-8. The cost
is $60 which covers food, travel, admission, and lodging
for the weekend. Money and sign up is due by January
25. For more informa on about this great place of training check out crea onmuseum.org.
Dare 2 Share Conference for Teens
Our goal for our students at Cross Point is to become a
Christ-centered leader. Being a follower and disciple of
Christ means sharing your faith with others. The Dare 2
Share Conference can help teach and give prac cal
steps on how to share one’s faith with family, friends,
and the community. Dare 2 Share ministries is designed to equip students to share their faith with those
around them. The youth ministry will be going to the
Dare 2 Share conference in Columbus, Ohio, March 67. The cost is $65, which covers food, travel, lodging,
and registra on. Money is due February 1.
Peru Mission Trip 2015
The Cross Point Youth Ministry is beginning to plan for
a mission trip back to Peru in June 2015! Please be in
prayer for those going, the fundraising, traveling protection, God’s favor on finalizing plans, and most importantly that the Holy Spirit would transform lives.
The youth ministry went to Peru in June of 2013, and
God did some amazing things in the lives of those who
went and we want to see God do more in the lives of
our church family. The students want to go back but
we also want to open it up to parents and other adults
to come and have God work in their lives as well. For

Two New Faces
Two new faces you may have
been noticing in Adventure Alley recently are Harry McClung
and Jason Bess. Harry has
been helping develop Bible
curriculum for Wednesday activities and has been teaching
many of the lessons. He also
has jumped in to play some of
the games with the kids in the

Jason has been helping out on

and has even been caught playing hopscotch in the hallway.

Prayer Chain
Prayer is a powerful tool we have as Christians.
As a church family we can help lift each other up
in prayer. One way we do this at Cross Point is
through our Prayer Chain. The prayer chain is a
group of people who have opted in to receive
prayer requests. When a prayer request is received, it is sent to this group using our church
notification system. Each member then receives
the request so they can begin praying for the
need. Individuals who would like to be added to
the prayer chain should contact Justin Davis in
the church office at (304) 252-6684.
To submit a prayer request, follow this procedure:
Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m.—Call
the church office at: (304) 252-6684.
All other times, call Justin Davis at (304) 5752363. If no answer, leave a message and Justin
will put it on the prayer chain as soon as possible.
Don’t Throw Away Those Cans!
The youth ministry has been collecting aluminum
cans to be recycled to raise money to support youth
activities. You can drop off your aluminum cans at the
church during office hours (Monday—Thursday 8AM4PM). There is a collection can near the gym. Help
support our youth and
