Women in Media: A Conversation with Hillary Howard Documentary Theater, Concourse Level, 11 a.m. Howard will talk about her lifetime career in radio and television and her role as afternoon anchor at WTOP, Washington’s most-listened-to radio station. In addition, Howard discusses her role as host of “It’s Academic,” the longest-running high school quiz show in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. News Corporation News History Gallery, Level 5, 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Throughout history, journalism was largely a man’s world, and women were mostly relegated to lower-rung jobs. The movement of women into the workplace propelled them front and center to Page One and the television anchor slot. Learn about the role of women in news history through stories, artifacts, photos and video. You’ll travel across oceans and through time to learn about news and history and uncover the truth about Elizabeth Cochrane’s alter ego. Votes for Women: The First Amendment and the Women’s Rights Movement Documentary Theater, Concourse Level, 2 p.m. This 30-minute program features “Can’t Touch This,” one of the Newseum’s most popular films. Participants learn about the five freedoms of the First Amendment and how women’s suffrage activists exercised those rights, protesting and publishing their own newspapers to bring attention to their cause.
